“As her youthful swain, J.J. Winchester, Charlie Reid is asked to show the many sides of his character, which he does with ease and comfort. J.J. morphs from insolence to sincerity with wonderful and stylish acting that leaves us gasping in expectation of where he might go next.” - J. Peter Bergman, The Berkshire

a bit about me

Hello!

I’m Charlie.

I am an actor, painter - and sometimes singer and independent filmmaker - from Trinidad and Tobago, based in New York City.

I grew up in a creative family, and caught the acting bug when I got cast in a student-written play my sophomore year of high school. I played a dumb jock who played the triangle in a boy band. Thinking back, I’m not sure I had any lines - but I felt like a freakin’ rockstar.

I then began studying under Kirk Baltz (Reservoir Dogs, Natural Born Killers, Dances with Wolves), Rafael J. Noble (Beginners, Grey’s Anatomy), and the late Trinidadian theatre luminary Raymond Choo Kong.

At 19, I moved to New York and attended Hofstra University and The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre for acting. I then joined The Freeman Studio and The Bob Krakower Gang. I get to class whenever I can. I’m an acting nerd.

Though it was my first love, I now paint by commission as a side hustle - namely acrylics on canvas. I do lots of tropical landscape pieces. After all, you can take the boy out the island, but…

I’ve collected acting work I’m tremendously of. Highlights include: Gemini (Off-Broadway revival, Theatre Row), See You (US Premiere, The New Ohio Theatre), True Art (World Premiere at the Dorset Theatre Festival, Script in Hand at the Westport Country Playhouse), and Bent (revival presentation, OUT/PLAY NYC at The Barrow Group).

I relish in workshopping new plays. It’s endlessly fulfilling.

Some other personal tidbits: I work in Ethiopian specialty coffee by day, have a tattooed portrait of my toy Cavapoo puppy on my right thigh, and I make a mean spaghetti bolognese.

And that’s where I’ll leave it - for now!
